31 July 2024 - I am coming back as promised with another weekly update on the Boil Water Notices for residents in the impacted areas of Limerick. Uisce Éireann are to provide me with weekly updates on the Boil Water Notices in Limerick, for which two remain active.
- Shannon/Foynes – Uisce Éireann have provided the following update:
“Uisce Éireann is continuing efforts to lift the Boil Water Notice in place for customers supplied by Foynes/Shannon Estuary Public Water Supply. Uisce Éireann appreciates the continued patience of our customers as we continue working to enable the lifting this Boil Water Notice. Final commissioning works are progressing at Shannon Estuary Water Treatment Plant. Sampling is ongoing and we are continuing to liaise with the EPA.
The rigorous testing and processes that are being carried out are crucial to ensure that the state-of-the-art ultraviolet disinfection unit installed at Shannon Estuary Water Treatment Plant is operating as intended. We do appreciate the continued patience of our customers as we work to lift the notice.”
- Cappamore/Foilean – The update from Uisce Éireann of last week did not mean to also apply to the Cappamore area. To provide an update on this Boil Water Notice, Uisce Éireann have provided the following:
“The Cappamore BWN has been in place since September 2023 and was put in place due to the detection of cryptosporidium in the water supply. The notice impacts all customers supplied by the Cappamore Foileen Public Water Supply, including Carrigmore. Uisce Éireann are working to implement measures to lift the Boil Water Notice. The last detailed update was end May and it included information on upgrade works at the water treatment plant. A further update is being drafted for issue shortly. We will send on more details to you when the announcement has been approved. In the meantime, customers are reminded to continue to boil their drinking water.”
I will follow up with Uisce Éireann to ensure that the provision of detailed updates like these are prioritised for all customers. I would love to have better news, but trust me when I say that I and my office will be keeping the pressure on as much as we can to see both of these notices lifted.
