Not surprisingly, quality of life dominates this policy pillars - A More Liveable Limerick. More housing being the big topic but not the only one at the launch back in Patrickswell, where I spent many childhood years.
My message was that it is now not just about building more homes but doing so at the right scale, in the right way and in the right places to design a more sustainable Limerick city and county for a fast growing population.
In my presentation, I set out an overall context and ambitious vision for a growing Limerick at the centre of a 1.5 million south-western counterbalance to Dublin. The imperative for a polycentric approach if we want to deal with fast growth. But most of all the use of Transport Orientated Development (TOD) and my much loved and appreciated new idea on the night - Fun Orientated Development (FOD).
Strong support for the actions and need for delivery under the 8 pillars for A More Liveable Limerick came during the audience Q&A and panel discussion with Michael O'Connor (Architect), Dylan Flynn (Musician) and Barbara Carr (Architect).
The ideas had been road-tested earlier in the week at Breakfast with Bridie in WELL BEAN and were then further discussed with the Sixth Class in Scoil Ide, Corbally and by visitors to our first Saturday Open House at our Campaign HQ.
