MORE HEALTHY

This pillar - A More Healthy Limerick - is the key to all the other pillars working well for Limerick.  While focusing on the acute care side of the equation is important and gets a lot of headlines, chronic illness management and prevention as well as the environment in which we live are equally important to our physical and importantly mental wellbeing.

I have core principles in how a More Healthy Limerick will be measured. Everyone deserves:

  • Care that is equitable
  • Care as close to home as possible
  • Care that is timely
  • Care that is of high quality.

I have set out mayoral actions to deliver better results for mental health, preventitive medicine and also how to change our environment so that it is healthier and we spend more time relaxing and exercising in it.

Important changes are recommended especially to deliver more local accountability from the HSE and UHL and allow more scrutiny of their work to improve the situation by the Council and the Mayor.

My action plan was interrogated and indeed welcomed as a holistic approach to this important area in the Deebart House Hotel by an expert panel John Webb O'Rourke (Health Treatment), Ian Hackett (Mental Health) and Nadia Atalia (Food Economics).
