John's educational journey began at St Paul’s National School and CBS Sexton Street, eventually leading him to become the first in his family to attend university. He earned a Law degree from UCD and a Masters from the Wharton and Law Schools at the University of Pennsylvania.

After passing the New York Bar, John worked at Sullivan & Cromwell on Wall Street, followed by significant roles at Tony Ryan's GPA, McCann Fitzgerald in New York, and eventually leading Zurich Financial Services in Asia and New York.

A pivotal moment in John's life was his return to Ireland in 2010 to aid the country's recovery post-recession. He played key roles at the Central Bank and the Department of Finance, managing crucial bailout negotiations and national financial strategies.
